Facts and Events
Minerva and her sister, Amanda, probably had a double wedding. Tipton Tribune, 12 Nov. 1926, page 8: "MRS. MINERVA WORDEN DEAD, Wife of John Worden Passed Away Thursday Afternoon. Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock Mrs. Minerva Alice Worden, wife of John Worden, residing west of Sharpsville died of a complication of diseases, she having been in poor health for the past five years, and for the past several weeks had been confined to her bed. With the passing of Mrs. Worden the community loses one of its splendid women who was a kind and obliging neighbor and a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Worden, whose maiden name was Summers, was born in Decatur county. Nov. 16, 1858, and would have been 68 years of age next Monday. Her parents were Isaac and Pomentia Worden, pioneers of Decatur county, and she was one of five children, all of whom are now deceased. Her parents are also both deceased. On Dec 3, 1876, Mrs. Worden and her husband were united in marriage in Decatur county, and to this union three children were born, two daughters. Mrs. Orville Pumpreys, of Groomsville, and Mrs. Fred Siler, of Sharspsville surviving. She is also survived by the husband, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Following their marriage in Decatur county, Mr. and Mrs. Warden resided in Monroe county, removing from that place to Adams county, and about twelve years ago they came to this county. Mrs. Worden was respected and loved by all who knew her, and her passing is a sad bereavement to her family and many friends. She was a true Christian woman and from girlhood was a member of the Baptist church. Burial will be at Prairieville, but the hour of the funeral has not been definitely fixed, although it is believed it will be Saturday afternoon." I have a copy of their Tipton County marriage record (PAH, Aug 2002). Also It is my understanding that they were in Tipton County before they moved to Jay County, where the Siler & Pumphrey families followed. Image Gallery
