"JOHN WARDEN DEAD. Well Known Farmer of Northwest Part of County For Years.
News of the death of John Warden, 76, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Orville Pumphrey near Sharpsville, was received in Tipton early Tuesday morning death ending an illness of several months, following a stroke of paralysis. For some time his condition had been critical and the end was not unexpected.
The deceased was for years one of the prominent farmers of the community in Prairie township, where he was born September 21, 1854. His parents were Abraham and Martha (Orr) Warden.
He was united in marriage to Miss Minerva Summers December 3, 1876 and three children were born to the union, one dying in infancy. The two surviving children are Mrs. Mayme Silers, wife of Fred Silers of Sharpsville and Mrs. Maude Pumphrey, wife of Orville Pumphrey at whose home he died.
His wife was a daughter of Isaac and Permelia Summers, pioneer settlers of Howard county, just over the Tipton county line north of Windfall.
In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. Warden left their farm in Prairie township and removed to Sharpsville where Mrs. Warden died in 1926. The husband continued to reside in Sharpsville until his health broke since which time he had been at the home of his daughter.
John Warden was a man who had many friends in this community who will regret much to learn of his death."
