Mrs. Sumner Wardwell Sunday at 2 p.m. services were held in the North Pomfret Congregational Church for Mrs. Maude Severance Wardwell, 79, who died on Feb. 8 in Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph. The Rev. Doris Rikert conducted the service. Burial will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7 Longdon Street, Montpelier. Bearers were Roy Wardwell, Edward Wardwell, Stewart Goodrich and Harold Thompson. Widow of Sumner Wardwell, Mrs. Wardwell was born in Randolph on Aug. 14, 1888, daughter of John and Josephine Severance. She married Sumner Wardwell in 1904 in Pittsfield. Shortly afterward they moved to Woodstock. Mr. Wardwell died in 1961. Mrs. Wardwell is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Berg of Ira, Mrs. Marion Peoples of Westboro, Mass., and Mrs. Jessie Johnson and Mrs. June Whitcomb of Woodstock; three sons, Ernest Wardwell and Kenneth Wardwell of Woodstock, and Glen Wardwell of North Pomfret; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leon Severance of Rutland, and a sister, Mrs. Joseph LaRose of Ludlow. -Vermont Standard, February 15, 1968
