Bessie W. Berg, 96, of Rutland, died Sept. 29, 2002, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1906 in Pittsfield, Vermont, daughter of Sumner C. and Maude (Severance) Wardwell. She was married to Harry K. Berg, in Hartford, Vermont on November 28, 1923. He died October 31, 1989. Survivors include three sons, Nelson and wife Margaret of Rutland Town, Donald and wife Carol of Ira, and William and wife Sandra of Castleton; two daughters, Marie Ward and husband Raymond of Castleton and Jean Hoague and husband Norman of Rutland; a sister, Jessie Johnson of Woodstock, Vermont; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a longtime resident of Ira and active in many organizations which included Gilman Chapter 88, Order of the Eastern Star, Ira Farm and Home Club, Ira Valley Grange, Killington Pomona Grange, Vermont State Grange and the National Grange, a leader of the Ira Busy Bees 4-H Club, and a charter member of the Ira Senior Go Getters. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tossing Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Ira Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 1 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Members of the Gilman Chapter 88, Order of Eastern Star, will conduct their service on Monday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
