A letter (dated somewhere in the 1970's) from Walter Dellinger, nephew of Magdalena Scheiderer, said that Matt Miller worked in Erb's, a buggy shop. From a history of Union County, Ohio (http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Union/Untp2BS.htm), there was a carriage and buggy firm in Milford Center owned by Charles Erb & Brother which employed "usually about six hands." The 1880 US Census shows Matt's occupation as Carriage Trimmer.
