Mary King was baptised on 29th May 1814 at Caddington in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter named Mary King, formerly Arnold, and her husband Thomas King, a labourer. Mary was the youngest of the couple's five children.

When Mary was eleven years old, both her father and eldest brother William died. Eighteen months later her elder sister Hannah also died. Mary and her surviving brothers James and John continued to live in Caddington with their mother Mary.

In 1833, Mary had a son named William Fensome King. When young William was only six years old, Mary died. She was just 25 years old, and was buried at Caddington on 22nd September 1839. After her death, her son William was brought up by Mary's mother.
