Mary Ingram was born on 18th January 1797 and baptised the next day at Grantham in Lincolnshire, daughter of Mary Ingram, formerly Tow, and her husband John Ingram, a miller.

By 1814 the family was living at Londonthorpe, just east of Grantham. Mary was married there on 30th June 1814, aged 17, to an agricultural labourer called Thomas Hedworth, who was about eight years her senior.

Mary and Thomas went on to have at least six children together between 1815 and 1833. Their eldest was baptised in 1815 at Heydour, which lies a couple of miles east of Londonthorpe. Mary's mother died back in Londonthorpe later in 1815. Mary's father then appears to have gone to live at Foston, where Mary's older sister Elizabeth lived. He died at Foston in 1817.

Some time between 1815 and 1822, Mary and Thomas moved to Wilsford, about three miles further north from Heydour, where they had five children baptised between 1822 and 1830 and where they appear to have stayed for the rest of their lives.

The 1841 and 1851 censuses each find Mary, Thomas and some of their children living in Wilsford, with Thomas working as an agricultural labourer. By 1861 all their children had left home and it was just Mary and Thomas living together.

Mary died at the age of 72, being buried at Wilsford on 10th November 1869. Thomas survived her by two years.
