Thomas Hedworth was baptised on 22nd March 1789 at Sapperton in Lincolnshire, son of John and Mary Hedworth (which was sometimes given as Edworth or Headworth).

On 30th June 1814, aged 25, he married Mary Ingram at Londonthorpe, about six miles north-west of Sapperton. She was about eight years his junior, being seventeen years old when they married.

Thomas and Mary went on to have at least six children together between 1815 and 1833. Their eldest was baptised in 1815 at Heydour, which lies a couple of miles north of Sapperton and a couple of miles east of Londonthorpe. Some time between 1815 and 1822 they moved to Wilsford, about three miles further north again, where they had five children baptised between 1822 and 1830 and where they appear to have stayed for the rest of their lives.

The 1841 and 1851 censuses each find Thomas, Mary and some of their children living in Wilsford, with Thomas working as an agricultural labourer. By 1861 all their children had left home and it was just Thomas and Mary living together.

Mary died in 1869, aged 72. The 1871 census finds Thomas living with his widowed daughter-in-law Sarah (her husband, Thomas's son William, had died in 1863).

Thomas died on 3rd December 1871 at Wilsford, aged 82.
