Mary M. Townsend, 78, of 1833 D St. SW, formerly of Temple Hill, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Temple Hill, by the Rev. David Ambrosy. Burial: St. Peter's Cemetery, Temple Hill. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, with a wake service at 7 p.m. Mary was born April 27, 1927, in Temple Hill, the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Donovan) Finn. She received her education in the former St. Peter's school in Temple Hill and St. Martin's School in Cascade. On Nov. 30, 1951, she was united in marriage to Henry Townsend in Dubuque. Mary loved to visit with family and friends. She especially was interested in what her children and grandchildren were doing in their daily lives. She is survived by six children, Karen (Jerry) Kiburz of Scotch Grove, Gary (Coleen) Townsend of Mechanicsville, Joseph Townsend of Cedar Rapids, Linda Boots of Ely, Galen Townsend of Cedar Rapids and Laura (Doug) Edler of Gladbrook; nine grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn (Jerry) Ray of Davenport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores Townsend of Marion, Ohio, Pat Townsend of Monroe, Mich., John Townsend of Clinton and Viola Finn of Temple Hill; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Townsend, on June 26, 1989; two brothers, Mike Finn and Jack Finn; two sisters, Bernice Holub and Catherine Finn; and a brother-in-law, Louis Holub. A Mary M. Townsend memorial fund has been established.
