Also spelled Chenwith Though the marriage of a Mary Chenoweth to Abraham Sutton has been known for some time, her place within the family had not been understood until recently. She is found in neither Hiatt nor Harris. The source comes from a bible record of her son, David Sutton, clearly delineating Mary as a Chenoweth and giving her date of birth as March 22, 1743. Abraham Sutton lived on Back Creek in Frederick co., VA next to Thomas Chenoweth. Though Thomas had a daughter Mary, her date of birth, also known by bible record did not match and is somewhat younger. Mary, the daughter of John(2), is thought to have married Levi Ashbrook. William(2) had a daughter Mary, known by his will, but the date given for her in Hiatt was way off. But then this, it turns out was more confusing Hiatt clutter. It appears now that William simply listed his sons first and daughters last and Cora inserted fictional dates. The name Mary Sutton appears on the estate papers of William(2) and this leads us to a very satisfactory solution, that Mary Sutton was the daughter of William and Ann.
