- The Sutton Family of New Jersey by Edward F. H. Sutton: married Sarah Chenowith: birth 1735/1741 D.A.R. Patriot Index: Abraham b. c 1739 dp. 1790 m. Mary Chenowith Pvt. PS, Pa. Served in Revolutionary War.
- Abraham Sutton was a Baptist minister and served in the American Revolution. The families movements are similar to that of his neighbor, Thomas Chenoweth in that the left the Virginia area in the 1760s for the area around fort Cumberland, in then Washington Co., MD, now Allegany Co. There is a record of a scandalous accusation at the Ten Mile Baptist Church near Lone Pine , by Mary that Abraham's brother James had made improper advances towards her.
- Entry dated Sept. 6, 1775 - "Proceeded to business and first an accusation brought against our ministering brother JAMES SUTTON (James was the pastor of the church) by MARY, wife of Abraham SUTTON. Upon her oath, she chargeth him with indecent behavior toward her. Postponed to our next meeting of business". Entry dated Sat. Oct. 13, 1775. - "Consulted upon the scandalous report brought against brother JAMES SUTTON by MARY, the wife of Abraham SUTTON, and found no cause of accusation"
