Mary Arnold was baptised on 18th September 1748 at Luton in Bedfordshire, daughter of Elizabeth Arnold, formerly Stokes, and her husband John Arnold. The family lived in the hamlet of Newmill End, on the River Lea to the south of the town.

In 1771, aged 22, Mary married John Warren. He had witnessed Mary's sister Elizabeth's marriage the previous year. Mary and John had a son baptised in Luton in 1772, before moving to the neighbouring parish of Wheathampstead, where they had a further four children baptised between 1776 and 1786. They have yet to be traced after the baptism of their youngest child.
