Facts and Events
Her birth couldn't have been before abt 1778, as that is when the first record I have of James Wooten being in Georgia is found; his last record in Johnston Co., Georgia was in 1775, after which he left. The Alexanders were in Georgia long before this. Her mother, Olivia Wooten, wouldn't have met Samuel Alexander before abt this date. The following references to earlier birth dates have no documentation: 1770 - is her birth date given on p6 Vol I "Georgia Rev. Soldiers & Sailors & Patriots", Mary Carter, 1977 Georgia Pioneers Pub Albany Georgia. There is no source given and I know that there are many errors in this book. 1773, May 4 - her birth date from "History of Fayette Co Alabama", Mr & Mrs Herbert Moses Newell Jr. 1960 Newell Offset Pub. Fayette Alabama. I do not know their source either. 1797, Jan 31 - her marriage to James Simmons, from p6 Vol I "Georgia Rev Soldiers, Sailors & Patriots & Desc.", ditto above. abt 1798 - she had a son, Asa C. A. Simmons, from a collection of what appears to be newspaper articles (Early Joel?, Robert P. Dews) sent to me by Patti Andrews. An article tells of a court case at April term 1832, Judge Warren presiding, (Tallieferro Co.?), Georgia., columns #103,104,105. 1819, Dec 9 - she is named Mary Grimes, formerly mar. to Simmons, in her father's will found in Greene Co., Georgia, recorded 1825. |
