The late Martin Krumm, father of the Martin who is now President of the Martin Krumm Company, was a man of energy. He founded and developed one of the oldestbusinesses in Franklin county which still continues in its originalquarters at 330 south fourth Street. He was born in Bronnweiler,Wurtemburg, Germany, on April 5th, 1812, and came to Franklin Country,Ohio, in 1832 with his father, John Martin Krumm, who was born inGermany September 24th, 1784, and died February 4th, 1864.
A few years after their arrival in America the late Martin Krummorganized the iron works which bears his name today. "Martin and his wife Fredricka Fichtner, sang in the choir of SaintPaul's German Evangelical church at the corner of High and Mound; andMartin belong to other musical organizations... When Martin junior diedthe German language newspaper "Westbote" in obituary printed August 12,1869, bestowed on him its usual appellation for German immigrants whohad made good. In September of the previous year Martin had had themisfortune to fall out a window; the impact shuttered his whole nervoussystem. He suffered a long time and during the last week it is lifelost his hearing. The newspaper lauds Martin: through his skill as acraftsman and his prudence as a man of business he gained riches andthrough his upright conduct won universal esteem among both Germans andAmericans.
