Moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma as a child. Upon graduating from high school, she was employed by Bell Telephone Co. Marie & Ivan eloped to Britton, Oklahoma to get married. They were married at the Methodist Episcopal Parsonage by Rev. J. R. Thomas. After the wedding, they both went home to their parent's homes keeping the marriage a secret. Ivan's mother knew about the elopement because she had to sign for him to marry, but Marie's parents did not know until they moved into an apartment together a few weeks later. Marie's mother was not pleased that she had not been told! After moving to Tullahoma, Tennessee with her husband & children, she worked for the Corps of Engineers, and in 1960 she was transferred to Nashville, Tennessee with the Corps. She lived in Donelson, Tennessee until her death in 1996.
