Margarete was Eliz. (Joly) Schmucker's mother, she was born on 17 Aug 1789 in Vahl, Moselle, Lorraine, France. She grew up in Vahl, and lived there after she married Louie Joly on 22 Sep 1812. Her Mother died in 1828 in Vahl and with the money from her estate, Margaret and Louie bought an Inn, La Gard de Dieu, and 10 acres. After her daughter, Mary, and her son, Joseph Louis died, the family left Michael and John Joly in France and came to the US, where they settled in Jefferson Township in Fort Wayne, IN. Their land is still in the possession of Margaret's niece, Virginia Havert (Mrs. Gladieu). (as of the time of Elizabeth's grandaughter,Marguerite Hern's account in 1910) Marguerite died in Ft. Wayne after 6 months illness with "Consumption & Dropsy" in their home on Jefferson Street on 15 Apr 1856. Margarete was Miriam's great, great grandmother on her mother's side.
