She was the second child of Margaret Schenher and Louie Joly, Elizabeth Joly's older sister. She died on boat coming to America in childbirth, and was buried at sea. "On the 24th of April, to Catherine Havert was born a child and, not being strong, she died on the 6th of May." The child lived for only 3 months and was buried in Ft. Wayne, where the cathedral now stands. Her husband remarried in Ft. Wayne.
