I am not certain that this Margaretha is daughter of Peter Schmidt and Margaretha Hayl. I am basing this ENTIRELY on the fact that Margaretha (Hayl) Schmidt, 62, is living with John & Margaretha RAUM in the 1850 census.

What makes me UNcomfortable about this theory is that we find early baptisms at St. Johns for Peter and Margaretha's sons, Christian and Carl, with their births recorded as 1826 and 1828 (although I still believe they were born in Germany, not Buffalo, but Peter and Margaretha had them baptized in Buffalo). But there was NOT a similar baptism for a daughter in 1832. Go back and double-check...
