On 12 October 2004, I was contacted by Danny Cook (cookdanny AT juno.com) of Florida. He wrote this:

"I have some information on the family of Peter Schmidt and Anna-Margaretha Heyl...There were married Alsbach, Germany [1825?]. For Anna, this marriage was after a marriage to Johann Heinrich Koch. A son from this first marriage is a part of my family heritage. They brought [6?] children from the first marriage to the states. Christian and Karl were from Peter and Anna. I believe that the Anna-Margaretha born in 1811 was also from the first union.

Their son Johann Philipp Koch seemed to gradually change his name [to Cook] during his adult life. He owned a number of properties in the Buffalo areas and a trend can be found moving from Koch to Cook. He is buried in the Lancaster Rural Cemetery. The cemetery records use Cook, the monument is in German."

Additional information from Daniel Cook: "Deed of Trust Liber 71/289 infers that eventually Peter Schmidt and Anna Heyl decided to live apart." [Likely backed up by 1850 census information.]
