Advisory

Margaret "Peggy" Moyer (b. 1793 in Wythe Co., VA) did NOT marry Jacob Baumgardner (1796-1875) of Lawrence County, Ohio. She married a DIFFERENT Jacob Bumgardner (abt. 1791-bet. 1860-1870), of Wythe County, Virginia and later Blount County, Tennessee. Some internet trees have inadvertently combined the two Jacob Baumgardner's into a single person without looking at the records that prove they are two entirely different persons.

This Margaret "Peggy" Moyer lived nearly her entire life in Wythe County, Virginia as proven in Census Records [1830, 1840, 1850] and later migrated to Blount County, Tennessee by 1860 when she is listed with her husband Jacob Bumgardner in the 1860 Census. The 1840, 1850 & 1860 Census records also show that Margaret could not read or write, also helping to prove that this is the correct Margaret Bumgardner.

Neither Jacob Bumgardner or Margaret appear to be listed in the 1870 Census which leads to the conclusion that they both likely died prior to 1870. A search is underway for any wills or estate records for Jacob Bumgardner or his wife Peggy, but as of now none have been found.
