Facts and Events
John Israel became Margaret's husband after Edward died. From Fonda Carroll <flcarroll@@charter.net> Surname is probably Lacon although alot have her as Larkin. There are two theories on Margaret Larkin/Lacon. 1) Edward Dorsey married (firstly) Sarah WYATT, dau. of Nicholas WYATT, the pioneer surveyor of the Severn; m. (secondly) Margaret LARKIN, dau. of John LARKIN, a wealthy land owner of the Patapsco, from whom Mrs. Potter PALMER, of Chicago, is a descendant. Col. Edward DORSEY inherited from his father the tract of land known as Dorsey, which his widow, Margaret Larkin DORSEY, sold to John BLADEN in 1706. In 1681, he together with his brother Joshua, sold their right to Hockley-in-the-Hole to their youngest brother the Hon. John DORSEY. The other estates of Col. Edward DORSEY were HOCKLEY, Barnes Folly, Major's Choice, Long Reach at Elkridge and Long Reach. He moved from Annapolis to Major's Choice, west of Waterloo and north of the Old Brick Church in Anne Arundel County, prior to 1700; he was at that time m. to Margaret LARKIN. From 1680 to 1705, Major DORSEY, as he was then titled, was in every movement looking to the development of the colony. From 1694 to 1696, he was Judge of the High Court of Chancery, during which time he was commissioned to hold the Great Seal. In 1694 he was a Member of the House of Burgesses for Anne Arundel County and from 1697 to his death in 1705, he was a member from Baltimore County (now Howard). His will is dated 1705. [Colonial Families in the US] 2) "Margaret's children did not have the advantages of Sarah's (Sarah Wyatt came from a very wealthy family). She remarried soon after Edward's death, but did not survive her second husband. The children were not schooled in letters and as a consequence made their mark on official documents." http://bl-12.rootsweb.com/~mdannear/firstfam/all/dorsey2.htm WFT Vol.6 #0873 NOTE: Margaret had 5 children by Col. Dorsey born in Major's Choice, Baltimore Co. Maryland but they were not listed in her 2nd husband John Gentleman Israel's will of 1723. References
