Some researchers claim that Margaret Hope who married Hugh Allison was the DAUGHTER of James Hope, but that Margaret Hope would have been too young to have been married to Hugh Allison. It is POSSIBLE that this Margaret Hope is a SISTER of James Hope, not a daughter. More research is necessary to prove a relationship. Margaret is being placed as a POSSIBLE SISTER of James Hope as a place holder only.

After reviewing a number of genealogies I have come to the following conclusions; Margaret Hope #1 married Hugh Allison. She was not the daughter of James Hope but may have been his sister. Margaret Hope #2 Was the daughter of James Hope and married Alexander Allison (son of Hugh) Margaret Hope #3 the daughter of Robert Hope (son of James Hope and Catherine Allison (daughter of Hugh Allison) married Joseph Alexander.
