About Hugh Allison, Sr.

NOTE: it appears that Hugh Allison's SON Alexander married Margaret Hope, daughter of James and Anne Hope, not Hugh. Margaret Hope, daughter of James and Anne Hope would have been too young to have been the wife of Hugh Allison, Sr. Perhaps there is another Margaret Hope of an earlier generation or another yet unknown spouse. More research may be needed.

The following Genforum.com post by another researcher seems to corroborate this researcher's conclusions:

Hope-Allison: The Three Margarets Posted by: James Woodworth (ID *****0598) Date: February 01, 2005 at 09:38:51

  of 1261

After reviewing a number of genealogies I have come to the following conclusions; Margaret Hope #1 married Hugh Allison. She was not the daughter of James Hope but may have been his sister. Margaret Hope #2 Was the daughter of James Hope and married Alexander Allison (son of Hugh) Margaret Hope #3 the daughter of Robert Hope (son of James Hope and Catherine Allison (daughter of Hugh Allison) married Joseph Alexander.

Hello to all Allisons. I am new to the forum. I am searching for the parents of Hugh Hope Allison who married Nancy Ann Becton in 1820, possibly in Mississippi. Their daughter, Mary D. Allison (b. 1830) is my ggrandmother who married Carnes B. Alexander from Mecklenburg NC.

I have found information on a certain Hugh Allison b. 1714, d. 1799 of Scotch descent who landed in America in Sept 1736 age 22 years. He settled first in Pennsylvania, then in Harford Co. MD, then removed to York District SC in 1796 and located on Bullocks Creek, south of Kings Mountain. While in Maryland Hugh Allison married Margaret Hope daughter of James and Ann Hope. (NOTE: this is incorrect! That Margaret Hope was too young, and according to other sources married Alexander Allison, Hugh Allison's SON).

James Hope's father was Thomas Hope of Hopetown, Scotland who died Oct. 1 1646. Hugh Allison and wife Margaret had 7 children: l. Alexander Allison ab. 1740. m. Margaret____? and had 7 children. 2. Catherine b. 1750-1837 m. Robert Hope. (They lived in Cararrus Co. NC. which is very near Mecklenburg Co. NC.) 3. Margaret Allison m. Mr. Dougherty and moved to Green Co. Tn., 4. Hugh Allison (b. 1746)? m. Polly Lane, 5. Rosanna Allison b. abt 1760, 6. Martha Allison m. a Mr. Johnson, 7. Robert Allison who married Sara Turner and had 6 children. In a booklet written by J. B. Allison "The Family of Dr. Robt. Turner Allison and Martha Burnett Clinton" York 1941, there is mention of a deed concerning Hugh Allison Jr. of York Co. SC who is buying some land from William Byers Sr. of York Co. in 13 Feb. 1776-320 acres on west side of Catauba River . The deed was witnessed by William Hall. A note says that Hugh Allison b. 1746 served in Capt. Wm Byers Company and also William Hall (d. 1838) also served in the same company. Does anyone connect to this family? I have names of some of the grandchildren of Hugh Allison and Margaret Hope if anyone is interested. Please e-mail to Helen Smith---HelenSm@@aol.com
