    Published unknown newspaper, copied from a scrapbook at the Michigan State Library in Lansing - Marenus Augustus Dennis was born Jan 1, 1855 at Bath, Clinton, MI and died Jan 12, 1917, aged 62yrs & 11days. He was 3rd son of 6 children born to M. & Clara H. Dennis (s/b L. not M.) With his parents, he came to Wheatfield twp when a few months old. Of the six children he is the 2nd to be called, his brother William E. Dennis having passed away exactly 6yrs ago on the dame day in same month. One Dec 31. 1878, he was united in marriage to Helen, dau of James & Eleanor Smith. To them were born 2 dau, Lillian Mae, wife of Gus Kuehn of this place & Ethel L. Dennis. There is also one grandchild, Helen Irene Kuehn, of who the deceased was particularly fond. He recieved his early education in the diatrict schools and established himself on the farm south of Williamston. For the past 25yrs he has operated a grain & hay business here. He was a director in the Williamston State Bank at the time of his death & was treasurer of his twp for 2 terms.......for these sterling qualities, many ...remember him with gratitude. He is survived by his widow, two daughters & one grandchild; also 2 brothers, Joseph H. & Stephen D. Dennis, & two sisters, Mrs.Frank Swan of this place & Mrs Chas Carl of Lansing. The funeral was held at the Congregational church on Jan 15, 1917 under the auspices of the Masonic Order, former pastor, Rev.James K.Kirker, of Clinton, MI, officiating. Interment in Dennis Cemetery.
