3:55 am Grandma finished the awesome journey here on earth. God called her home and she is now in the arms of Jesus and walking hand in hand with Grandpa. Grandpa rolled out the Red carpet on those streets of gold and the sites she is seeing now have to be awesome. She is going to be so missed by so many.

    Obituary
Woodard, Marcella Mae, 98 Mount Victory
Services for Marcella M. Woodard will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Kenton by Rev. Steve Hess and Rev. Tom Hanks. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Kenton. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home, Kenton and for one hour (9:00 - 10:00 a.m.) on Saturday, prior to the service at the church.
Marcella went to her heavenly home at 3:55 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 at Marion General Hospital. Marcella was born in Hardin County on April 22,1924 to the late William Roy and Inez C. (Flowers) Windle. Marcella married Donald D. Woodard on August 23, 1942 and in 2017 they celebrated seventy-five years of marriage together.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Woodard, and brothers Earl Windle and Karl Windle. Surviving are her son, Gary (Judy) Woodard of West Milton; a daughter, Sherry Ann (Gene) Greentree of Mount Victory; grandchildren, Amy Woodard, Bonnie (Steve) Brielmaier, Daniel (Shawna) Woodard, Annette (Phill) Gill, and Carla (Vern) Woodruff; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Anna and Joseph Woodard, Nathanael and Sarah Gill, and Verne, Carl, and Mariann Woodruff.
Marcella was a graduate of Forest High School class of 1942 where she played basketball. She previously worked at Kroger (on the square in Kenton), Kenton Telephone Company, and Barr Store. Marcella also was a lifelong farmer’s wife and homemaker. Marcella previously volunteered with the sewing ladies at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church where she served as a deaconess, nursery worker, and was involved in the ladies support of missionaries. Marcella enjoyed her flowers and watching her purple martins, along with the many birds at her feeders. She enjoyed traveling with Don, especially to Alaska, Florida and out West. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Memorials may be made to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.stoutcrates.com.

Notes from calling hours, funeral, service, and luncheon from the memory of Shawna Gambol Woodard: Pallbearers were grandson, Daniel Woodard, and all of Marcella's great grandchildren: Elijah Woodard, Verne Woodruff, Anna Woodard, Carl Woodruff, Mariann Woodruff, Joseph Woodard, Nathanael Gill, and Sarah Gill. Most of the service was conducted by retired pastor Steve Hess with Bible readings from pastor Tom Hanks. Bible and poetry readings were by Marcella's granddaughters, Annette Gill, Bonnie Brielmaier, and Carla Woodruff. Bonnie read a poem she had written for Grandpa Don's funeral. Bonnie also read a poem she wrote for this occasion at the graveside part of the service. The granddaughters made sure that the flowers had (artificial) birds and butterflies in the arrangements as Grandma loved to watch the birds and butterflies and bees on her flowers and fruit trees. Annette arranged to have a chrysalis in a net cage at the funeral service. By the time of the luncheon the Monarch butterfly had hatched! Beautiful imagery! Annette put the butterfly on Grandma's flowers at the cemetery. The piano player offered a number of traditional instrumental hymns including In the Garden and Old Rugged Cross. I can't remember right now what Bible verses were read, but one hymn was "Are You Washed in the Blood of the Lamb" and one hymn was about heaven and one reading from I Thessalonians. It might have been these verses: 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Pastor Hess referenced that Marcella had played basketball in High School and that Carl and Mariann were on the cross country teams: Hebrews 12:1 New International Version
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Rev. Hess called her Marcie during the service. I had not heard people call her Marcie, but Amy Beth says that she did go by this as a girl.

Letter from Judith Ziegler Woodard to granddaughter, Anna Woodard, December 2020: Anna, many of your ancestors have loved Jesus. Don and Marcella were Christians. Don's Mom, Margaret, was a Christian and got them to go to the little Alliance church on Leighton Street. It was not the best part of town, but it was evangelical. We went there, also, until the new church was built on Route 307, just east of Kenton - Kenton Christian and Missionary Alliance. We attended there until moving to West Milton [Miami County, Ohio].
Marcella often helped in the nursery and prepared communion. Don was a trustee and did repairs and more for the church.

Christmases of yore always included a trip to Barr's
    By Betty Lawrence
"There were seven Barr stores in all, Kuenning said, noting the chain was founded by brothers Fred and Will Barr. The first stores were located Celina, Greenville and Kenton. Later came stores in Yellow Springs and Covington and two in Indiana in Monticello and Frankfort.
The Barr chain was sold in 1978 to the W.R. Thomas Co., which expanded it to 14 stores".
