Facts and Events
Note connections of this family with Braught, Owen, and Motley families. Ida Catherine Motley, the granddaughter of James Owen, married Cortes C. Braught. This connection was probably the way she first met her husband, David E. Braught. It would be a worthy effort to research details of these inter-relationships even further. Lula Closson shared by phone the contents of Louisa's Mitchell, SD obituary listed 22 May 1828 that reported Louisa had three living sisters: Mrs. J.A. Archer of White Lake, SD; Mrs. Turbett (was Motley) in CA; Mrs. Hattie Dodge of Des Moines, IA; and brothers James Owen and Elmer Owen, both of CA. She said that her sister Martha Owen Motely witnessed the marriage of Louisa to D.E. Braught, JR. at Madison Co., IA in 1870 (she said Martha was born 31 Mar 1842 and died 10 Feb. 1931). Louisa reportedly moved with her parents to Warren Co., IA in 1864 (near end of civil war), then she and husband David Braught, Jr. to Mitchell, SD in 1889, then to Lemmon, SD about 1892 and back to Mitchell in 1899.
