Died 3 December 1976. Buried at Circleville. Baptized by Benjamin Cameron, Jr., and confirmed by James Munson, 3 September 1917.) 1 October 1890: Of Circleville. Married Taylor Whittaker. Ceremony performed by James Wiley, justice of the peace. Witnesses: Bay Lewis and Orson A. Dalton.5 August 1903: Signed petition asking County Commission to consolidate Circleville and Lost Creek School Districts, claiming that neither district "is able to build a school house of sufficient capacity to accommodate all the children of their respective districts, nor to grade the scholars according to their merits, resulting in the holding back of children that ought to be advanced, for their slower going class mates."1920: Living in Circleville. Anderson, Sylvia Dalton, Dora Dean Applegate and Alpine Smith.23 February 1945: Mrs. Lois Whittaker is home after a few weeks. 108th Birthday / Circleville-Utah's oldest resident, Lois Elzetta Barton Whittaker, will observe her 108th birthday anniversary Monday. / Mrs. Whittaker, who has lived in Circleville most of her life, is a patient in the extended care ward of Garfield Memorial Hospital, Panguitch. A family spokesman said there will be no special observance due to her health. / "Aunt Lois" as she is affectionately known by her hundreds of friends and relatives, born May 3, 1868, at Parowan, a daughter of Lorenzo and Synthelia Guyman Barton, early settlers of Iron County. / The community of Circleville, where she spent the greater part of her life, had only been briefly settled, abandoned and resettled in the year of her birth. / When two and a half years of age, her mother died, leaving her to be cared for by a 10-year-old sister, Sarah. Later, Mrs. Whittaker made her home with a Presbyterian family, the Reverend Arthur B. Cort and his family. / The Corts were sent to Utah as missionaries and taught a day-school at Parowan. While residing with that family, Mrs. Whittaker attended school and assisted in the home with the Cort's small daughter, Cora. / When Rev. Cort was called to St. George, Mrs. Whittaker accompanied them and resided there until coming to Circleville with the Levi Barton family in 1887. / She was married to Taylor Whittaker on Oct. 1, 1890 at Junction. They became parents of nine children, seven of whom are still living. / They include five sons and two daughters: James L., Christopher Arthur, Carlyle, Rollo, Kent and Mrs. Glen (Nellie) Betensen, all Circleville, and Mrs. Cora Meeks, Kanab. / She has 34 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren. / Mr. Whittaker died Feb. 18, 1940. / In 1961, Mrs. Whittaker was honored by being chosen as the reigning queen of the annual Circleville homecoming celebration and again in 1964, she was chosen queen of the Circleville centennial celebration. 9 December 1976: Lois Whittaker Passes at 108; Oldest Citizen / Circleville-Utah's oldest resident, Lois Barton Whittaker, died Friday in a Panguitch hospital. She was 108. / Mrs. Whittaker had been a patient in the extended care unit of the hospital for several months, but prior to that had lived at her own home, taking care of herself.
