Andrew Mitchell was b. 19oct1774 at Beith, Ayrshire, son of Andrew Mitchell and Janet Alice (Vital Records). Andrew Mitchell, writer, d. 15jul1845 and Lilias Oswald, his relict, d. 3nov1846 at 4 Blythswood Pl, (Glasgow Herald). Andrew Mitchell of Maulside, Glasgow writer (MA 1794); partner of firm Grahame and Mitchell, law agents for University; b. 19oct1774; d. 15jul1845; son of Andrew Mitchell, anti-burgher minister of Beith (Glasgow University graduates). They had a son John Oswald Mitchell (1dec1826, Govan (IGI)-26jan1904). „Old country houses of the old Glasgow gentry“ (1878) was written mainly by John Guthrie Smith (1834-94) and John Oswald Mitchell. The Old Glasgow Exhibition (1894) was organized by a committee that included Alexander Wilson Gray-Buchanan (1851-1909), C.D. Donald (1848-95), J.O. Mitchell and John Guthrie Smith (1834-94).
