Page 138, Person number 120 FOUGHT IN 1812 WAR
Lewis Throckmorton was born in NJ or VA about 1769/70; living at home time of first census, 1782 and 1784, Hampshire Co. VA. Married Drusilla Flora about 1794/5. He served in the War of 1812 as sergeant, Capt. William Childrey's Co of Inf.; 33rd Mayer's Reg. VA. Militia of Henrico, which organization was called into service March 19 and disch. March29, 1813. He is shown to have served five days, but the dates between which he served are not stated.
He is said to have been a great hunter. Always on the frontier of civilization. His children had little or no advantages of school, as shown by the census, 1850, Jackson and Sciota Co, OH. He lived in VA, until the birth of his first and perhaps second child; then migrated to Ohio, where his eldest son was born, 1800. Probably remained there for several years, then went to PA (probably Green Co. where his kinsman, Daniel Throckmorton lived.). Where his daughter Anna was born 1807/8. Back again in OH, 1810 where his daughter Rachel was born; enlisted in War of 1812 from VA. where his daughter Drusilla was born that year; probably returned to Ohio after the war and his daughter Alsey was married there in 1819. But the spirit of change came over him again and he went to KY, where his two youngest sons were born, 1820-1825. Where else his roving disposition led him we do not know, but his descendants say "he returned to Ohio and lived and died at Four Mile (a Crabtree settlement) four miles from Jackson OH. He outlived his brother Thomas, who died 1857.

  8.   Ohio pgs 26 Lewis II's daughters Elsie, Ann, Drusilla and Rachel married Crabtree brothers.

Their children intermarried and lived near together. Joseph Throckmorton's son Joseph A. married Daniel's granddaughter. Barbara Throckmorton and their children married into the Crabtree family. They lived first in Union Twp. in Sciota Co., OH, later Rush Twp, was formed June 3, 1867 and they lived in Rush and Morgan Twps, on the McCullough Creek road. Many descendants live there now. Many records were destroyed during the Civil War. Time has almost erased the cemetery records. We are lucky to obtain a small amount of information, insufficient as it seems.
Lewis II was a wheelwright and blacksmith. pg 24
Lewis was also a Justice of the Peace. pg 25
Pg. 22 The children of Lewis II were moved about so much that they received very little formal education. At the time of the census of 1820 and 1830 he evidently resided in Greenup, Kentucky. At the time of the 1830 census, he was back in Scioto Twp., Jackson Co, OH. In 1840 census he was in Scioto Twp, Jackson Co. and in the 1850 census the same place.
Lewis II first three children were born in Virginia, Daniel and Lewis III in Ohio. Ann in PA, Rachel in Ohio, Drusilla in VA. Then the next three in Kentucky and we cannot explain the birth of Elizabeth in New York State. We do not find Lewis in the 1860 census as he died after his brother Thomas ( who died 1857, between 1857 and 1860. We believe he was buried in the Grahamville cemetery but no stone was found.

Lewis was in the War of 1812, and his Service Record states he was born in Fayette Co., PA. in 1773, forty years old in 1813. The boundary between PA. and VA. at this location and time were in dispute so he may have been born in either state. He was five feet ten inches tall, his eyes and hair were black, completion dark. He was employed as a wheelwright. He served eighteen months and applied for a pension in 1650, giving his age as eighty three years. Thus he would have been born in 1767, but other records show 1773, but he probly wanted to be older to get the pension. This was commonly done to prove need and disability. He enlisted from Jackson Co., at Portsmouth, OH. for eighteen months. He served from Sept. 30, 1813 until discharged on March 20, 1815. He held the rank of Corporal in the Company of Captain John T. Chunn, of the 17th U. S. Infantry. From Portsmouth, OH. he was marched to Chillicothe, OH. to guard British prisoners. In the spring of 1814 he went to lower Sandusky, OH. under Colonel Campbell, Captain John T. Chunn, Lieutenant Morrow and Ensign Stewart. From there he sailed to Put-in-Bay Island and on to Erie, PA Thence into northern New York State and Canada. He served as a wheelwright. In his pension file he states that the cold and exposure of the campaign caused severe back trouble and other ills. On April 2, 1851 he was granted 160 acres and the papers arrived at the Jackson Co., Court house. Unable to find where the grant was located or whether he sold it or used it. LEWIS Throckmorton Jr., born 1769/70 Hampshire Co., Va., married Mrs. DRUSILLA (HARTLEY) FLORA 1794 in Pike Co., OH., died 1857-1860, possibly buried in Grahamville Cemetery, Scioto Twp., Jackson Co., OH.. Whether he used or sold this land is not known. His pension file number is IF-18422.172 In the 1840 census for Scioto Twp., Jackson Co., OH. LBS states that "Lewis had a very roving disposition, as shown by the census records and the widely scattered births of his children." He was a wheelwright and a blacksmith. At the time of the 1860 census Drusilla was living with her son Thomas. Fact 1: Lewis had a reputation as a hunter Fact 2: lived among the mountains & streams of Hampshire Co., Va. He died between 1857 and 1860 as he is not found in the 1860 census and was said to have outlived Thomas who died in 1857. We feel he was buried in the Grahamville cemetery, but found no stone. It is not likely Drusilla is buried there as her death record is in the Pike Co. court house. ...Lewis had a reputation as a hunter. He lived among the mountains and streams of beautiful Hampshire Co. Va. His father owned acres of land alonag the Cacapeon River and the South branch of the Potomac, beautiful woodland. His mother's brothers, William, Lewis and John DeMoss owned many acres also. In 1796 these men all sold their ground in preparation to moving on to Ohio. Before they could move however, Lewis and Rachel died. We have no record of the DeMoss family moving to Ohio. Lewis and Daniel, sons of Lewis I, took part in the trek to Ohio through Pa., through the wilderness, accompanied by Jacob and Wilson Westfall, the Hartleys and Haltermans, Wisemans, Dixons and countless others."
