In the 1900 census for Liberty, Coffey Co., Kansas, there are listings for a Shankland family [cannot read on HeritageQuest and not indexed on Ancestry.com] with 5 members, head is listed with mother born Pennsylvania, next four with mother born Ohio, and [on next page] daughter Alta is 5 born July 1894; and son Leon is 2 born Mar 1898 -- both born Kansas, father Kentucky, mother Ohio. {ed 39, sh 18a, p. 97} In the 1910 census Leon is living in Ottumwa, Coffey Co., Kansas, as 'hired man' age 12 born Kansas (father US, mother Kansas) with the family of Henry (Elmer? Simer?) 41 from Kansas, with wife Sarah E. 35 England, 4 of 6 children; Dortha E. 5; Henry G. 3; and Pauline G. 1 and 3 months -- all born Kansas. {ed ?, sh (9?)b, p. 129}. In the WWI draft registration, a Burton Leon Shankland is listed in Wyandotte Co., Kansas. {WWI Draft Registration Index, <www.ancestry.com>} In the 1920 and 1930 census (as Burton L.), Leon B. Shankland is listed in Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., Kansas, with wife Pauline. According to his death certificate, he was married to a Pauline, and worked as a salesman for a baking company. He died of pneumonia as a result of influenza. References
