FUNERAL SERVICES HELD ON SUNDAY

Kristine Mortsen was born in Shellen, Denmark, on June 19, 1856, and passed away at the Genoa hospital March 30, 1939, at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 11 days. In 1889 she was united in marrage to Hans P. Rasmussen in Denmark. To this union two children were born. In the fall of 1892 the family came to America and settled at Leigh, Nebraska, where Mr. Rasmussen passed away in 1894. In 1907 she was united in marriage to J. C. Nelson, of Genoa Nebraska, and since that time has filled the place of a faithful wife. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, her two children, Carl P. Rasmussen, of Castle Rock, Wash., and Mrs. Anna K Jensen, of Omaha, Nebr., 11 grand children, 2 great grandchildren, and 12 step children, 65 step grandchildren, 66 step great grandchildren, and 3 step great great grandchildren. As a child in Denmark she was reared and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, in which she remained faithful to the time of her death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Nelson in St. Edward. Two servants of God, John Good and Ray Linder, officiated. Burial was made in the Bethany cemetery ten miles northeast of St. Edward. Pall bearers were all grandchildren, Leo Jensen and LeRoy Swanson, of Omaha, Blenn, Orville, Dwaine and Dale Nelson, of St. Edward. Those coming from a distance to attend the services were, her husband, J.C. Nelson and his son, Charley, of Genoa; her daughter, Mrs. Anna K. Jensen and son, Leo, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Horte, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Swanson and daughter, Joan, of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson and son, Roy, of Ord; Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Stone and daughter, Erma, of York; Mrs. Andrew Nelson and daughter, Mrs. Leo Lipska, and Ole Nelson, of Potter; Chet Nelson and daughter, Dorothy, of Crete; Peter Nelson and daughter, Mrs. Harold Christensen, of Newman Grove, and many other relatives in and around St. Edward. After Hans Rasmussen's death in Leigh, Nebraska in 1894, Kirsten was left alone to bring up her two childrew, Carl, age 5, and Anna, age 3. How she managed those years is unknown, except that Soren and Peter and Ole were there to help her. She was located in the 1900 census in Clear Creek precinct, Sounders County, Denmark. She was 41 years old and she was the housekeeper for Andrew G. Christensen. According to that census, Anna attended school and Carl was a farm hand. In 1907 she married Mr. John Christian Nelson. She was his second wife, although Carl and Anna were 17 and 16 at the time, Mr Nelson had two of his fourteen children living at home. They were Albert Nelson, age 14 years and Chester Nelson, age 9 years. She and J. C. Nelson were both 50 years old at the time of their marriage. In 1910 they were shown in the census as living on a farm in Genoa, Nance County, Nebraska. According to the cinsus J.C. Nelson owned the farm, but it was morgaged.
