Services held Sunday for John C Nelson John C. Nelson, son of Nels and Gertrude Nelson, was born in Denmark on August 26, 1856, and passed away at Genoa on December 31, 1943, at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 5 days. He was married to Caroline M Olsen in Denmark in the year 1877 and came to america in 1888. They settled in Columbus, Nebraska, where they lived for twelve years, and the remainder of their lives was spent in the vicinity of Genoa. To Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were born fourteen children. His wife preceded him in death on October 23, 1899, as did also two daughters and one son, Margaret in infancy, Mary in 1936, and Pete in 1941. After his wife's death Mr. Nelson was married to Mrs. Christina Rasmussen in 1907. She passed away in March 1939. Mr. Nelson is survived by two daughters and nine sons: Mrs E.O. Stone of York; Mrs. Lena Burdick, of Portland; Charley of Genoa; Andrew and Ole, of Potter; Nels and John, of Ord; Otto, Albert and William, of St. Edward; Chester, of Bridgeport; and two stepchildren, Mrs Anna Jensen, and Carl Rasmussen, of California. Also surviving him are sixty-six grandchildren, nienty-two great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at two o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. Paul Neel officiating. Miss Blanche Abbott and Mrs. Earl Hasselbalch sang "The Old Rugged Cross" "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Take It To The Lord In Prayer" while Mrs. Harry Knudsen presided at the piano. The body was laid to rest in the Bethany Cemetery north-east of St. Edward, carried to its last resting place by six grandsons, Birgil Nelson, of Tilden, Roy Harold and Leslie Nelson of Ord, and Dwaine and Glenn Nelson, of St. Edward. Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs, Nels Nelson and their three sons, Harold, Leslie, and Lavern, Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson, Mr. and Mrs Roy Nelson, all of Ord; Mrs. E.O. Stone of York; Mr. Ole Nelson of Potter; Charley Anderson, Mrs. Andrew Jensen, Mr and Mrs. Devore, of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Anderson of Valley; John M. Nelson; Mr. and Mrs. August Olson, of Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nelson of Genoa; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Nelson of Tilden; Mr. and Mrs. William Gabrielson, Mr. and Mrs Carl Sjurson and daughter, Marion, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gabrielson and daughter, Evelyn, all of Newman Grove.
