Kathrine came to the United States in 1905, she was 12 years old. Her father had passed away, she and her mother and younger sister Olga came to Chicago on October 10, 1905. She became a milliner and her younger sister worked in the adverti singdepartment of the Chicago Daily Tribune. In 1911 her mother moved from Chicago to Stanley, WI., she was the house keeper for a well-to-do farmer, Ole Haugen, a widower. They were then married, as it wasn't considered proper for a woman to b e living at a man's home outside of a marriage union.
