Monsignor Julius John Olinger

Monsignor Julius John Olinger, 86, of Dubuque, formerly of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died Monday, April 19, 1993, at Dubuque Health Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Strawberry Point, with burial in the Strawberry Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 pm today at the church, where there will be a rosary at 7:45 pm and a wake service at 8 pm. The Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point, is in charge of arrangements.

Monsignor Olinger served at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Garber, Iowa, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, Iowa, St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton, Iowa, and was a chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was born on June 14, 1906, in Cox Creek, north of Strawberry Point, son of Adam and Rose (Tinker) Olinger.

He attended schools in the Strawberry Point area and attended the former Columbia College, Dubuque. He was ordained on May 30, 1931, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. He was named a monsignor of Dec. 8, 1974, and retired to the Villa Raphael in 1983.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.
