Former Mederville Man Dies Following an Auto Accident at Fort Dodge

MEDERVILLE -- Glen Olinger received the sad news Monday that his brother Dale Olinger had passed away at the Fort Dodge hospital where he had been since Christmas Day as a result of an accident. Everything that could be done for the young man was done but to no avail. The remains will be brought to the home of his brother Paul Olinger at Cox Creek from where the funeral will be held. The young man was 24 years old. Our sympathy is extended to the family.

Dale Olinger

Funeral services for Dale Olinger were held at St. Mary's church Thursday morning. Music was furnished by the combined choirs of St. Mary's and Sacred Heart churches. Father J.J. Olinger, brother of the deceased, was celebrant of the Mass; Father Bacci of Oelwein was Deacon; Father Hammill of Edgewood. sub-deacon and preached the sermon; Father Boyle, the local pastor, was master of ceremonies. The pall bearers were Floyd Moser, Wilbur Baldridge, Elmer Baldridge, Erwin Meyer, of Don Tinker, and Delos Tinker. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

Dale Adam, son of Mrs. Rose Olinger and the late Adam Olinger, was born Aug. 5, 1908, six miles north of town. He received his education in the rural schools, until his parents moved to town, when he entered the local public school and graduated with the class of 1925. He was a young man with good habits and his friends were found with everyone he came in contact with. To meet his death in the way that he did is too bad, but our loss is Heaven's gain, for Death loves a shining star. Four brothers, one sister, and his father preceded him in death. Surviving are the mother and sister, Sister Mary Frances of Ft. Dodge, and five brothers, Leon Olinger and Paul Olinger, who reside on the Olinger farm north of town; Glen Olinger of Mederville; Father Julius Olinger of Mason City; and Valmah Olinger of Fresno, Calif., besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Besides the priests mentioned above from out of town who were in attendance at the funeral services were Monsignor O'Connor and Father Supple of Mason City, and Father Cregan of Volga City; also four Sisters from Mason City, and one Sister from Ft. Dodge.
