Adam E. Olinger was born seven miles north of Strawberry Point, Feb. 8. 1870, and passed away at the St. Joseph hospital in Dubuque May 10, 1933.

The deceased was the son of Engelbert Olinger and Susana Hanson Olinger and one of a family of eleven children, eight of whom are still living. He was united in marriage to Miss Rose Tinker. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom have preceded their father in death. Mr. and Mrs. Olinger have always lived near and around Strawberry Point. Mr. Olinger was a prosperous and well to do farmer, a man of strong convictions, competent and faithful in the discharge of his duties. About twelve years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Olinger moved to town where they have since resided and where they have enjoyed the fruits of their labors and savings. Mr. Olinger was secretary of the Strawberry Point Farmers Creamery here for four years. He was a devout Catholic and since coming to town attended the St. Mary's church regularly. He never failed his church, his family or his community. When there was work to be done for a worthy cause, he was always ready to do it. His work is done on earth and he has earned a rich heritage in his new home beyond the grave. Mr. Olinger is survived by his wife and six sons and one daughter: Rev. J.J. Olinger of Mason City, Leon, Glenn, Paul and Dale of Strawberry Point, Vulmah of Fresno, Cal., and Sister Marie Frances of the Sisters of Mercy of Cincinnati Providence also six grandchildren and five sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Wm. Father Wm. Schulte of Columbia College delivered an impressive sermon and the archbishop gave the Absolution immediately following. The choir led by Father Kelly of Columbia College consisted of Fathers Schulte, Ferring and Kuenzel of Columbia College and Mulcahy of Oelwein.

Other priests in attendance were Fathers John Malloy of Waterloo, MacDonald of Columbia College, Wiehl of Lamont, Lonegran of Jesup and Torpy of Hazleton.

The church was not large enough to allow admittance to the large crowd that attended including relatives from Chamberlain, S.D., Minneapolis, Minn., Sheldon, Iowa City, Dubuque, Monona and surrounding towns. The casket bearers were five of his sons and a nephew, Elmer Baldridge. Interment took place in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
