Richard Water's wife's name is known to be Joyce, but her maiden name is unknown. Richard Waters called his step-father William Plasse his "father-in-law" in a document (as was common terminology for a step-father at that time), leading some to assume that Joyce was the daughter of William Plasse. Fiske gives credit to Henry Waters for pointing out that the term likely meant step-father in this case, and thus Joyce's origin cannot be assumed.
