Joshua died on April 24, 1903 at the age of 72 years of age. He died a poor man and uneducated. It is not known, because his descendents are so scarce, just what kind of man he was or anything about him. We do know that he and his brother George left their home in Alabama fairly wealthy young men with inheritance from not only their father George but inheritance from their Whitworth grandparents. However, the fall of the Confederacy in the Civil War, left Joshua and his bride Eliza, like so many other families, nearly broke and looking for a better future. ( notes of Ron L. Hooper)
