Joseph Porter (33) s/o Wm. Porter Jr. and Mary Bowen was married twice. First to Catherine Alexander in 1807. She died in 1785. She is buried in the Sandifer-Porter Cemetery in Marshall Co.,TN. Their children from this union were:

On March 11, 1825 he married Sarah Alexander Lloyd, widow of Ezekiel Lloyd, the mother of several children. she was born in North Carolina(Tennessee was part of North Carolina at that time). Catherine and Sarah were sisters. She died in Green Co.,Mo. after 1852, the date of her husbands will. Children with his second wife, Sarah were:

Martha Ann (Jane)?, b. 24 Jan. 1826 William B., b.26 April 1829; d. 13 May 1831 in Marshall Co.,TN. Daughter.

The grave stones of this family were removed from the burial ground on the family farm to the Delaware Cemetery in Christian Co.,Mo.

Joseph was a First Lieutenant in the company of his brother, Captain John Porter, West Tennessee Militia, in the War of 18112 and was wounded at the Battle of Taladega. He and Sara migrated to Green Co., MO in 1832 where he purchased land from the Delaware Indians and established a home where he lived for the remainder of his life.

It is probable that he raised the children of two of his deceased daughters. They are listed in the census in his household. These were the children of his daughters Jane Merritt and Catherine Sandiford.
