I., about 1721; m. Oyster Bay 71676, Rose Townsend, b. ?Warwick, R. I., 71648 ; d. ?Cedar Swamp, L. I., after 1720, dau. of Henry and Ann (Coles) Townsend of Oyster Bay, L. I. Henry Town- send and family were living In Jamaica, L. I., at the time of the Stuyvesant persecution of Quakers, (1657) and he was Imprisoned and fined for having had a meeting at his house. During his captivity, his dau. Rose, then only nine years old, with the connivance of a sympathetic jailor was able to supply her father dally with food. Records of Town of Oysterbay show, 13 Jan. 1676. " Laid out to Joseph Dickinson 10 acres on west side of Tho: Townsend. anil 16 acres by ye old Planting-field." 1677 Joseph Dickinson on list of Freeholders. 1695 Nicholas Slmklns sells to Joseph Dickinson his share of the Saw mill at Musketa Cove, with right to cut Umber on any of Nicholas Slmkln land. 1697 Henry Townsend to (son-in-law) Joseph Dickinson land bounded west by highway from Musketa Cove to Lusum, north by Patent Line, east by a small Hollow and south by ye great Hollow (Chicken Hollow). 1703 Laid out by ye Town to Captain Joseph Dickinson, 60 acres, bounded east by road from Mattlnecock to Lusum, south by road from oyster Bay to Cedar Swamp and north by Henry Cock and Samuel Weeks. 1708 Joseph Dickinson to William Walton 1/10 Interest In Sawmill as purchased of Nicholas Slmkins. 1719/20 Joseph Dickinson, Gentleman, to son Zebulon, messuage at Cedar Swamp, reserving whole use to self and wife Rose, during life, &c. 1721 Capt. Joseph Dickinson and son Joseph Dickinson Jr. sell to Adrlaen Hegeman, land where Joseph Jr. lived except that sold to Peter Luyster.
