The Will of John Dickinson dated 26 Jan. 1680 is to be found in Old Book "A," p. 163, Records of the Township of Oysterbay, Queens Co., Long Island

I, John Dickinson of Oysterbaye upon Long Island in New Yorkshire being weak of body but in perfect memory and understanding; Blessed be unto ye Lord, do declare my last will this daye above bearing date.

First—untow my son Joseph Dickinson, ye Lands and medow which I have settled upon him, to remain his, his hayres. Executors and Assigns for Ever.

untow my daughter Elizabeth five shillings, with yt she hath aiready had, to be her full portion.

untow Marcy my daughter, I give five shillings with that she aiready hath to be her full portion.

I, give and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth dickinson ye ordering and disposing of my whole estate unto my six youngest children viz:—Lidiah, Mahetebell, Samuel, Hannah, James and Jabise so long as she continues a widow, but if she marry Again, then these my six youngest Children, when as soon as she is maryed and all depts defrayed, my wife Elizabeth shall have her thirds out of this my Estate, ye remainder to be divided Equally, only Jabise to have a double portion out of it and if there part of portion by valuation of sufficient honest men, be more to one person than what I have given unto my son, Joseph, yt then they are to make him equal in portion with them out of theres. and as for my son Jabise I desire he may reside with his mother and be a help unto her as she sees meet; and if he should be so yt she is minded he should be from her, then I desire yt he may live with Joseph and he to have ye Estate with him and if it follows yt Jabise dye whilst with ye said Joseph then Joseph is to have his Esteat, but if he should dye whilst with his mother, then the Esteat to fall to his mother; but if he should outlive his mother and then he to go to Joseph my son and ye said Joseph should dye, then I desire my overseers to be Assistant unto him yt he may be provided for if so it should please almightly god to take him away by death, and those whoome I doe intrust with ye overseeing yt this my last will, will be According unto my desire herein, are John Underhill Sr., John Fexe Sr., and my son Joseph Dickinson whom I hope will do their best lndeavors to fullflll this my last will.
