Joseph Cory, son of John and Priscilla was the father of Mary Cory. He is said to have been born in September, 1709 in Essex County, New Jersey. He married Mary Meeker, daughter of Daniel and Mary Meeker. Mary was also born in Essex County, New Jersey. Joseph and Mary (Meeker) Cory were the parents of Mary, Jonathan, Daniel, Moses, and Benjamin. Two of their children married into the Conklin family. Mary Cory married Joseph Conkling and her brother Daniel married Hannah Conkling. The will of Joseph Cory is dated 8 March 1780 and was proved 21 March 1782. His will says that he lived in the Elizabethtown borough of Elizabeth, New Jersey. He leaves his land in Westfield, New Jersey and a small tract of salt meadow on Elizabethtown Creek to his eldest son, Jonathan and states that his son Benjamin is to receive the rest of his land. The remainder of his removable estate is left to his daughter, Mary Cory Conkling who by then was a widow herself. His sons Jonathan and Benjamin were the executors and the will was witnessed by John Miller, William Richards, and Isaac Maxfell (Maxwell). The inventory of his estate gave a value of 311.19.9 pounds.
