His death record states he came to the United States in 1824.
He told his grandson, Carlton, that the Bresetts were from Montreal and left there in the early 1800's, before the War of 1812. He moved from Kingston Ontario when about 12 years old, and worked as an oarsman on a ferry between Ogdensburg New York and Prescott Ontario. He later brought his parents to New York.
In 1830 he may have been living in Oswegatchie and in 1840 in Ogdensburg. In 1850 he was a farmer in DeKalb, 1860 a laborer in DeKalb, 1870 a farm helper Oswegatchie, 1880 a laborer Depeyster, and 1900 a farm laborer in Russell. At the time of death he was a farmer, living in Rensselaer Falls, NY.

Sadie Hosler LaNore, granddaughter of Jane Bresett, kept notes of the family, giving the names of Jane's parents as Jane and John and their children as Joe, John, Peat, Oshel and Jane.
In 1850 his birth year is 1813 and in 1860 it is 1820.

Certificate includes age (90y 7 m 26 d) and place of birth, parents first initials (J. father, M. mother) and last name Bresett, both born Canada; date and place of burial. He died at 3 am of cancer of the stomach.

We can be confident this is Jane's brother because: He is living next to her in 1850 and there is a Peter, age 25, living with him. These are two names mentioned as brothers of Jane in Sadie Lanore's family notes. Also, his ggranddaughter and Jane's ggranddaughter have a 'very high 4th-6th cousin' DNA match.
