DEATH OF CIVIL WAR VETERAN Michael Bresette, 89, Died Monday At Home of Son in This Village Michael Bresett, 89 year-old Civil war veteran, died at 12:30 Monday at the home of his son, James Bresett, of 171 Rowley street. Mr. Bresett had been in poor health for over a year. Mr. Bresett was born in DeKalb, December 12, 1842, a son of Joseph and Emma Martin Bresett. On August 11, 1862, he enlisted as a private in Company C of the 106th regiment of the New York Infantry Volunteers, under the command of Captain Peter Robertson. He took an active part in the war, being engaged in the battle of Missionary Ridge, Little and Big Bull Run and the Battle of the Wilderness. In this latter engagement he fought for seven days, and on the last day he was wounded in the hip. He was honorably discharged on September 24, 1864, from the Campbell hospital. A short while afterward he attempted to re-enlist but his injury made him ineligible for further service. Mr. Bresett leaves only one surviving member of this post, Gus Cooper of Morristown. Mr. Bresett is survived by a son, James, at whose home he died, and a daughter, Mrs. John Barnart, of Pierpont. There are also 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren Funeral services will be held at the home today at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the Edwardsville cemetery. MICHAEL BRESETTE DIES IN GOUVERNEUR Michael Bresette, 89, formerly of Edwardsville, died at the home of his son, James Bresette at Gouverneur Monday night. He was a Civil War veteran, having enlisted with the New York Infantry, August 18, 1862, and discharged in 1864. For the past two years he had made his home with his son. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the home of his son with Rev. J.P. Hayes, officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at Edwardsville. Surviving besides the son with whom he made his home is a daughter, Mrs. John Bartch of Pierrepont. Source: Republican Journal, Wednesday, July 13, 1932, p 12.
