Jonathan (10) settled near the mouth of Tom's Creek in Old Monocacy, Frederick County, Maryland. Some family histories identify him as among the very earliest settlers, citing a 1742??? land warrant. He is not, however identified as an early land holder in "Pioneers of Old Monocacy, 1721-1743", (Tracey and Dern, 1987). It appears likely that he appeared on the scene in the Old Monocacy area sometime after 1743. The early warrant date may be correct for the original taking up of the land, but if so, it was probably taken up by someone other than Jonathan Hayes (10). In any case, the earliest record that we have for him in the area comes in 1760, when he and Charles Hayes sign a petition to subdivide All Saints Parish.[1]
