- Bedford Co, VA Court Records, 23rd day of September 1754: Nicholas Welch is appointed Surveyor of the Road in the Room of John Mills & it is Ordered that he Together with all the hands that Assisted the said Mills on the said do forth with Clear and Keep the same in Repair according to Law. John Welch is appointed Surveyor of the Road from Ewings to the ford of Otter River in the Room of John Vance & it is Ordered that he Together with the Hand that Assisted the said Vance on the said Road and all Other Hands Convenient do forthwith Clear & Keep the same in Repair according to Law.
