In his email dated July 22, 2002, John Harper [[email protected]] stated that a Susannah Harper, widow, married Joseph Welch on December 15, 1785, at Amherst County, Virginia. She and her second husband Joseph Welch thereafter moved to Lincoln County, Kentucky. Joseph Welch was a Revolutionary War veteran and in Susannah (_____) (Harper) Welch's application for a pension she stated that she was born in about 1760.John Harper then stated that this Susannah (_____) (Harper) Welch died in 1841 at Marion County, Kentucky. There may be some connection between this family and Susannah (Harper) Wright, but we were unable to ascertain what that relationship was or if there were any.

John Harper also stated that Joseph Welch resided in the same neighborhood in Amherst County as Achillis (Achilles) Wright and Minor (probably Menos) Wright.I have identified Achilles Wright as 1825 (year of death) Achilles Wright of Oldham County, Kentucky, (place of death) and Menos Wright as Parmenos Wright who died probably before 1817 at Nelson County, Virginia. Both were witnesses to the will of 1776 Augustine Wright of Amherst County, Virginia.I suspect, but cannot prove that all three were brothers.Jesse Wright, Sr., (Amherst County) may well have been related to these three persons, but I have not as yet found any evidence to confirm that relationship.

Joseph Welch belonged to Morgan's Rifle Corp: married a Susannah Harper. Ezra Morrison, then in Kentucky, testified he was acquainted with Joseph Welch, who enlisted in Captain Samuel Cabell's Conq)aity. 6th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Captain Fontaine.

Note: birthyear listed as 1765, but records clearly show that in 1776 he was old enough to enter military service, so he was likely born much closer to 1757, give or take a year or two.
