From the Revolutionary War Pension Application of Eizabeth's father, Joseph Welch:
- [fn p. 4: Miss Elizabeth Welch, 52, gave testimony in Marion County on November 13, 1840 that she is the daughter of Joseph and Susanna Welch; that she has no doubt of his service as a soldier in the revolutionary war; "she has heard him so frequently in his lifetime speak of the services he rendered in the company commanded by Lieutenant Lawrey Rose and Captain Samuel Cabell and that he belonged to Morgan's Rifle Regiment…." She also authenticates the family Bible record saying that it is in the handwriting of John Garland a school master written many years ago prior to her father's death. She signed her up affidavit with her mark.]
