DEATH OF JOHN R. SLATES
Body Will Reach Here Tomorrow from Springfield, Ohio
The body of John R. Slates, past 80 years old, a former Carthage resident and uncle of George Slates, Carthage grocer, will arrive here tomorrow morning from Springfield, Ohio. Mr. Slates died in the Knight's of Pythias Home in Springfield where he had been a resident a number of years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Ulmer home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Mr. Slates was born in Ohio. He came to Carthage in 1907 and was employed a number of years as a tea salesman. He was a brick mason by trade. His first wife, Mrs. Nancy J. Slates, to whom he was married in Kilgore, Ohio, died February 1, 1920 in Carthage. He later was married again, his second wife passing away in 1924
Surviving Mr. Slates are two children, Mrs. Laura Thomas of Colorado Springs, CO. and Homer A. Slates of Cleveland, OH.
