    According to Nancy's Missouri Death Certificate, she passed away at the Missouri State Hospital #3 in Nevada (Washington Twp), MO. of chronic heart disease. She had been a patient there for 8 months prior to her death, age 64.

    DEATH OF MRS. JOHN R. SLATES

    Carthage Woman Passes Away After Illness
    of Several Years

    Mrs. John R. Slates, 65 years old, passed away at 5 o'clock yesterday morning at the state hospital in Nevada. Death came after an illness of about seven years. The body was brought to Carthage for burial, the family having resided here the last 13 years. The Slates home is at 317 North Maple street.
    Mrs. Slates was born on a farm near Kilgore, Carroll county, Ohio September 13, 1856. On September 12, 1875 she was married in the same county to John R. Slates. Three children were born to this union, two of whom survive their mother. Mrs. Slates was the last of a family of eight children.
    The survivors are the husband, and two children, Mrs. Laura Thomas of Colorado Springs, CO., and Homer A. Slates of Cleveland, OH. Irma I. Slates, the other child has been dead some time. Mrs. Thomas will arrive tonight to attend the services, while the son is expected tomorrow.
    Definite funeral arrangements have not been made. However, the services will be conducted at the Ulmer Undertaking Company's chapel by Rev. J. D. McCaughtry,pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Mrs. Slates was a member of that church.
    The Slates family moved to Carthage from Carrollton, Ohio.
